The Story of MediterraneanArt
Selim Zrilli — Founder of MediterraneanArt
I am Swiss with Tunisian roots. Olive wood connects me to my homeland and the memories of my grandparents — back then, almost everything was made of olive wood. No plastic, no mass-produced goods. Only natural materials processed with care and respect.
MediterraneanArt is my way of keeping this tradition alive — and bringing a piece of this genuine, handcrafted world to people in Switzerland.
Our story does not begin in a factory.
It begins under the warm sun of the Mediterranean – amidst ancient olive trees that have been part of the landscape and culture for generations.
These trees grow slowly, often over many decades. Their roots reach deep into the earth, their branches bear fruits that feed families and keep traditions alive. When an olive tree one day no longer bears fruit, however, its story does not end.
Its wood begins a new life.
From this extraordinary wood, unique pieces are meticulously handcrafted. Every board, every spoon, and every chessboard is shaped by experienced artisans with patience and respect for the material. The vivid grain tells the story of the tree – which is why no two pieces are alike.
MediterraneanArt combines this centuries-old craftsmanship with a Swiss standard of quality, precision, and refinement. Every product is carefully selected, inspected, and prepared before finding its place in a kitchen, on a table, or as a special gift.
But behind MediterraneanArt is more than just wood.
The brand also supports the craftsmanship of talented women in Tunisia who produce traditional ceramics, thereby preserving valuable cultural knowledge.
Our products are therefore more than just objects.
They are small pieces of nature, craftsmanship, and history – created for people who appreciate genuine materials, honest work, and timeless beauty.
